April was a busy and rewarding month for the HeartVets team, with a range of educational events, conferences and collaborative evenings bringing together veterinary professionals from across the UK. From our interactive Cardiology Roadshows to supporting regional conferences and hosting engaging CPD sessions, it has been fantastic to connect with both familiar faces and new colleagues. Here’s a look back at what we’ve been up to throughout the month of April.
April round-up
April 22: HeartVets Cardiology Roadshow
Firstly, on Wednesday last week both Dave and Jo hosted another round of our Cardiology Roadshow in Cardiff and Exeter – a “pub quiz” style whistlestop tour though a wide variety of cardiology topics to expand knowledge of our delegates in a fun and social format. The evenings were lots of fun and there were even prizes for the winning teams! Thank you to all who attended and let us know if you would like more events like this in your area. Keep an eye on our socials page for more dates still to be announced.

April 25: Cornwall Veterinary Association Annual Conference
Our south-west team were supporting the Cornwall Veterinary Association annual conference in Camborne, Cornwall on Saturday. Jo delivered a lecture on how, when and why we run ECGs, and it was lovely to see so many of our referring vets at our stand. It is also always great to meet new people so please do come and say hello at future events!

April 30: Regional CPD Evening with Watkins & Tasker Vets
Jo Harris, Anna Beber and Jenny Wright led a fun evening CPD event hosted at our new visiting clinic base, Watkins and Tasker Vets in Portishead. Jo started with a brief overview of congestive heart failure in dogs and cats, with a focus on how clinical examination can help to guide you towards your diagnosis and streamline your decision making. She also gave an update on therapeutics and discussed recent novel research which is attracting some interest from vets and owners alike and gave practice advice on an evidence-based approach.

The team then split into three groups for delegates to discuss some heart failure presentations in patients we have seen in our clinics. the take-home message was that everything is not always as it seems! It is very important to obtain as much accurate clinical information as possible, perform the most appropriate tests, and if the heart failure treatment has been instigated and does not appear to be working, we need to dive a little deeper and make sure the diagnosis is correct.
The evening was a great success, offering an opportunity for delegates to refresh their knowledge and skills and discuss cases in a relaxed informal environment.
If you would like to refer us a case in the South Bristol/Portishead/ Clevedon area, please contact us on the usual number 0800 999 4333 or admin@heartvets.co.uk and we will be happy to help. Clinics at Watkins and Tasker run monthly, please contact us if you need advice from the team or would like us to see one of your patients!
